The Freedom Neuroscience Theme

How do we define Freedom?

Freedom at work is usually the ability to choose our own progression path and have autonomy within our role.

Where does Freedom sit in our neuroscience model?

Freedom sits within the Instinctive Brain System which is located in the Basal region of the brain. In our neuroscience model the Instinctive Brain System is linked to Happiness. In the image below you can see Freedom sitting underneath Happiness and Instinctive.

What are the 3 core areas that make up Freedom?

The 3 core areas which make up the neuroscience theme of Freedom are:

  1. Acceptance
  2. Authenticity
  3. Autonomy

1st Core Area: Acceptance

This is about being accepted for who we are. It means not being judged or experiencing prejudice because we are different from the perceived norm.

Acceptance is a state where diversity is embraced and openness is the encouraged state of mind.

2nd Core Area: Authenticity

This runs hand-in-hand with acceptance. Authenticity in this context is a state of human expression, whilst acceptance is the response we get.

Being allowed to be authentic allows people to access their deepest talents and passions, enabling them to offer their whole selves, rather than a diminished shadow shaped by judgment and prejudice.

3rd Core Area: Autonomy

The opportunity to operate with some autonomy strikes at the heart of the human experience.

It gives us space to explore and grow, and to take ownership of our responsibilities, actions, and their consequences. It offers us the opportunity for deep personal meaning and learning.
