The Clarity Neuroscience Theme

How do we define Clarity?

One of the most common mistakes we see, clarity is the simplest of our 8 themes but often an area that is underestimated in terms of importance.

It’s the ability to think without distraction and to concentrate on relevant information and tasks.

Where does Clarity sit in our neuroscience model?

Clarity sits within the Rational Brain System which is located in the Neo-Cortex region of the brain. In our neuroscience model the Rational Brain System is linked to Engagement. In the image below you can see Clarity sitting underneath Engagement and Rational.

What are the 3 core areas that make up Clarity?

The 3 core areas which make up the neuroscience theme of Clarity are:

  1. Job requirements
  2. Information flow
  3. Organisational impact.

1st Core Area: Job requirements

Each person needs to understand exactly what is expected of them in their role. This is usually explained in the job description and includes key tasks and responsibilities.

These documents should be dynamic and evolve over time, keeping pace with the person’s learning and ability. Remember, all employees are different and some may need the contents verbalised.

2nd Core Area: Information flow

People need to have access to the right information to enable them to do their jobs effectively.

This should include primary information for task execution and supporting information for context. The contextual information offers room for more creative ideas as to how task responsibilities can evolve.

3rd Core Area: Organisational impact

People have the opportunity to contribute more widely when they can see the bigger organisational picture.

Understanding how their own role fits into the wider process flow of the end-to-end business encourages cross-functional consideration and ideas, avoiding the missed opportunities of siloed thinking.
