The Enablement Neuroscience Theme

How do we define Enablement?

Pointing your team in the right direction is one thing, but are you giving them the tools they need to do their job?

Having approval and the necessary resources is key for employee engagement and could easily influence whether an organisation succeeds or fails.

Where does Enablement sit in our neuroscience model?

Enablement sits within the Rational Brain System which is located in the Neo-Cortex region of the brain. In our neuroscience model the Rational Brain System is linked to Engagement. In the image below you can see Enablement sitting underneath Engagement and Rational.

What are the 3 core areas that make up Enablement?

The 3 core areas which make up the neuroscience theme of Enablement are:

  1. Workload
  2. Resources
  3. Collaboration

1st Core Area: Workload

The level of workload and the degree of challenge within it needs to be sufficient to keep the person engaged but not overwhelmed.

People need to feel like they have a realistic chance of handling their workload successfully and the sense of achievement that results from this. Factors such as effective scheduling, task allocation and prioritisation are critical.

2nd Core Area: Resources

People need the right resources to be available to fulfill their responsibilities.

This includes having access to the appropriate tools, systems and support services, as we provide enablement through education and training.

3rd Core Area: Collaboration

Collaboration with other teams outside of the immediate role context can open up opportunities for wider creative contribution and more effective teamwork.

Apart from the new ideas that can emerge for greater efficiency and business success, it can also provide real cultural benefits and broader organisational agility.
