What is a word cloud?
A word cloud is a visual representation of a collection of words, where the size of each word is proportional to its frequency or importance in the given dataset of comments. Word clouds are used to quickly and visually summarise the most prominent terms included in comments, making it easier to grasp the main themes or topics.
Where do you find word clouds in the platform?
Word clouds are used in Insights. Word clouds are found in two places - one on the Summary tab, and two on the Sentiment Analysis tab.
Summary
The word cloud in the Summary tab shows the words in comments associated with a score. Words associated with a comment left against a positive score (5+) are shades of green, and words associated with a comment left against a negative score (5-) are shades of orange and red.
Words left in comments in Comment Only questions do not show here as they are not associated to a score.
Sentiment Analysis
The word cloud in the Sentiment Analysis tab is made by running each comment through a Sentiment Analysis API to determine if the comment has an overall positive or negative sentiment. The words associated with a positive sentiment (sentiment > 0.25) are shown in the Positive Word Cloud. The words associated with a negative sentiment (sentiment < -0.25) are shown in the Negative Word Cloud.
Words left in comments in Comment Only questions are show here.
Are any words or phrases excluded from the word clouds?
The Happiness Index has a list of words and phrases that are excluded from all word clouds to maintain clarity and usability. This includes joining words with no meaning, such as "and", "is" and "the".
